Equal parts 90's death/doom and old school Hellenic black metal. Extremely moody and riffy. Labyrinthine songwriting with an eerie sense of melody. Lots of variation throughout the entire runtime. Eosphoros
Here I am sitting in misery with the migraine of my life, and I think I've found my cure. Mare Cognitum is not just giving me relief from my suffering; it is giving me energy as the pure and unadulterated rage and fury of Solar Paroxysm is being channelled through my body. I really regret not giving Mare Cognitum a second chance earlier, but I can now live at peace knowing that I'm lucky enough to be able to experience such an exhilarating and majestic masterpiece of brutality and therapy. Late 90's BM worship, but it's also a lil more than that. This album takes the best elements from the scene it's inspired by and mostly avoids the worst of it; the song-writing is well-written, it's performed with passion and fun, and the production is raw but isn't lo-fi. (i.e. it doesn't obfuscate and/or suckass).
Tl;dr It's safe but high quality BM. Recommended. Rabbit
